Adullam Housing Project from the parents viewpoint

The answer to one man's prayer Our son Timothy, owing to circumstances in his life, found himself living in a dirty derelict mill.

In great desperation he prayed that he would find him somewhere to live. The next morning he went to Olivet Pentecostal Church in Ramsbottom. The Pastor rang Adullam's Bethany Project, who responded instantly and offered Timothy a place.

At this time we were not aware of our son's situation, he phoned to say he was moving into Bethany. It was then that we found out where he had been sleeping. We helped him move his belongings - he had his clothes and bedding in plastic bags under a pile of rubble.

After a time of re-adjustment and counselling, Timothy moved into an Adullam one-bedroomed, fully furnished flat where he began to take more responsibility for his life.We worked with the Graham, the Project Worker from Bethany. When a problem arose, Graham would contact us and we would meet together - Timothy, Graham & his team and us (his mum & dad).

Timothy's main problem was alcohol, his lifestyle could be very disruptive, which is why he could not live with us. He lost the flat he was living in because of this and finished up in the mill.

We believe that Timothy's recovery is due to the way that Bethany project is run. He was allowed to lead his own life but with a fantastic backup always at hand. We always felt confident when he was in the project. Timothy was with the project for about two and a half years - longer than most. We feel that, had the decision been made to let him go earlier, he would not be where he is today - able to face life with confidence.

Timothy was given so much support, both practical and spiritual. He has moved onto a one-bedroomed council flat in Ramsbottom.

We thank Graham and all the staff, the pastor and the congregation at Olivet.
